Sinharaja Tropical Rainforest 🌿
Sinharaja Forest Reserve can be described as one of the most remarkable creations of nature. In 1989, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Sinharaja tropical rainforest is located on the borders of the Ratnapura, Galle, and Matara districts. It covers an area of 11,187 hectares. Within this forest, there are five mountain peaks rising above 600 meters. The highest peak is Hinipitigala Peak.
Inside the forest, waterfalls such as Brahmana Ella and Duvili Ella can be seen. This forest is home to many plant species endemic to Sri Lanka. Among the animals found here are deer, monkeys, and giant squirrels, as well as birds such as the Sri Lanka junglefowl, parrots, and hornbills. Endemic reptiles, amphibians, and snakes can also be found in this forest.
Protecting the Sinharaja Forest is the responsibility of all of us.
